Health Vote Scheduled TODAY for 1:15
Posted May, 4 2017 by Amanda Dunker
The original bill would have gutted Medicaid to pay for billions in tax cuts for millionaires and would have asked some Americans to pay more than they earn in a year for insurance. Shockingly, the new bill is even worse. This time, they’re going after people with pre-existing conditions by letting states segregate them using high-risk pools, expensive programs that have failed again and again.
Keep calling 1-844-898-1199, and keep showing up at their offices! We want all members of Congress to hear from constituents, but it is especially important if you are represented by one of the following because we do not have promises from them to vote “no.” The number above will connect you with your Representative after you put in your zip code:
- John Faso (Hudson Valley) – there is a rally outside his Delhi office (in Delaware County) today at 5:30, either to celebrate or let him know how disappointed you are. More details here.
- Elise Stefanik (Watertown and Saratoga Springs) – you can also rally outside her office in Glens Falls at noon, more details here.
- Claudia Tenney (Binghamton, Utica)
John Katko (Syracuse) and Dan Donovan (Staten Island) have said they will vote no – thank them! Peter King (Long Island) and Tom Reed (Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, Western New York) have said they will vote “yes,” so please call them and let them know how disappointed you are. A rally will be held outside Tom Reed’s office in Corning today at noon, details here.
Keep letting people know: Medicaid and the ACA save lives! It makes a difference – we saw it work in March! Check for more events at this link – you can also follow HCFANY’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and we’ll keep you posted.
The vote will be streamed live here.
