Citizen Action of New York as a part of Health Care for America Now!(HCAN!) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – released a report, “Unequal Lives: Health Care Discrimination Harms Communities of Color in New York” explaining how New York’s $7.7 million people of color suffer disproportionately in our health care system.

This report echos two earlier reports released this spring by the Community Service Society (CSS). In the two-part series, the first report found that minorities experienced worse health outcomes on 10 out of 12 quality measures in New York’s public insurance programs. The second report found that African American are more likely to lose their Medicaid managed care coverage compared with any other group.

These reports show how communities of color are adversely affected by our current health care system and emphasize the need for comprehensive health care reform at the State and national level.
