Did you know that nearly half of working people in New York City do not get a single day of paid sick time for themselves or to take care of a sick child?

This means people are going to work sick, sometimes with infectious diseases, and are unable to go to the doctor. Statewide, most workers get no paid leave following the birth or adoption of a child, or when they need to care for a seriously ill family member, such as an aging parent.

On Friday, June 11, all are invited for a breakfast briefing to learn about two critically important pieces of legislation that would address these public health issues. Come hear about these bills directly from Council Member Gale Brewer, prime sponsor of The Paid Sick Time Act in NYC, and State Senator Diane Savino, prime sponsor of The New York State Paid Family Leave Insurance Act. Workers without paid leave and public health experts will also be on hand to explain the importance of these measures, and all will have the opportunity to discuss what we can do to make them a reality.
