Got plans for this Wednesday? Do you have a health care horror story to tell? Want to make a statement for health reform through *peaceful* protest? If so, then head down to Zucotti Park this Wednesday!

Healthcare for the 99%, a working group of the Occupy Wall Street movement is spearheading a “March Against the Health Insurance Industry” this Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 26th.

Festivities will start at 3 PM just under that giant red sculpture thingy in Zucotti Park.

From there, the agenda is as follows:

  • 4 p.m. – Open Speakout: Got a health care story to tell? Like to talk in front of large audiences? Now is your chance to SHINE!
  • 4:30 – March Against the Health Insurance Industry begins at Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield (One Liberty Plaza):  located across the street from Zuccotti park, Empire is a subsidiary of WellPoint, the largest publicly-traded health insurance company. (Wellpoint is a company that bought up formerly-non-profit Blue Cross plans once they converted to for-profit.)
  • 5:30pm – WellCare (110 5th Ave): the for-profit company that administers Medicaid and Medicare Advantage programs in New York and other states.
  • 6pm – St Vincent’s Community Hospital (12th St & 7th Ave): St. Vinny’s closed earlier this year due to bankruptcy leaving a huge health care gap on the West side.  March will end here!
