NY Health Foundation Releases Two Important Coverage Reports

The New York State Health Foundation(NYSHF) issued two important reports this week.
- HCFANY partner organizations, New Yorkers for Accessible Health Coverage and the New York Immigration Coalition‘s report “Analysis of New York State Coverage Expansion Proposals: Potential Impact on Immigrants,” examines how major health insurance expansion proposals will impact immigrants. The report evaluates nine State reform proposals as to whether they: (1) cover immigrants, (2) improve immigrant access to coverage; and (3) hurt immigrant access to coverage.
- A second NYSHF study, “Reducing Enrollee Churning in Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and Family Health Plus“–conducted by Lake Research Partners-explores why one-third of the enrollees fall off public health insurance programs (Medicaid, Child Heath Plus, and Family Health Plus) each year. Key barriers include: confusion about eligibility and the recertification process, abundance of paperwork requirements, and language issues. The report includes the enrollees recommendations about how to solve the problem. Read the NY Times article about the study.
