Issue Brief: The Basic Health Plan Option and the Affordable Care Act

Premium subsidies on the NYState of Health insurance marketplace make coverage more affordable for many New Yorkers who need insurance. But, the yearly cost for coverage may still be too expensive for some families. The Affordable Care Act includes a provision to allow states to implement a new public insurance program called the Basic Health Plan to help families who earn up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.
