New York just reached another major enrollment milestone: Governor Cuomo announced today that over 2 million New Yorkers have enrolled through the NY State of Health Marketplace since it launched in October 2013! What’s more, over 89% of these New Yorkers did not have coverage when they enrolled. In other words, more than 1.8 million of the 2 million New Yorkers who enrolled were newly insured.

In its announcement, the State also cited a recent NY State Health Foundation survey of enrollees, which found that 92 percent reported being satisfied with their health insurance, and 84 percent reported using their coverage to access care.

New York’s Marketplace is widely recognized as one of the most successful in the country. And with numbers like this, you can see why! There are a lot of people to thank for this impressive achievement: the hardworking staff and leaders of the NY State of Health; in-person assisters like Navigators and CACs who are helping people around the state understand the Marketplace and enroll; and the thousands of New Yorkers who told their uninsured friends and families about the new affordable health insurance options they could find on the Marketplace.

And, with two weeks left in open enrollment (which ends on February 15), we’ll get to see these numbers grow even more!
