Affordabiliy Is Paramount in HELP Bill

This week, leading advocacy groups—including the American Cancer Society, a HCFANY member—sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Congressional leaders emphasizing the absolute need for affordability in national health reform.

The letter commends the proposed House Committees on Health, Education and Labor, and Pensions (HELP) health reform bill for recognizing that in order to achieve affordable health care, sliding-scale premium subsidies must go up to 400% of the federal poverty level. While HCFANY maintains that these subsidies must approach 500% in New York, the HELP legislation standard is a step in the right direction.
