Host: Rise and Resist Health Care Action Group
Join this 30+-min. silent vigil outside Lenox Hill Hospital to show support for equitable access to health care. Previous vigils have been held in Queens (which has the lowest hospital bed rate of any county nationwide that has a hospital in it, and which has lost half its hospitals and over 1,500 beds over the past 2 decades) in Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Corona, and Sunnyside, all medically-underserved neighborhoods that have been hit hard by the pandemic. (By contrast, Manhattan has the highest bed capacity rate in the country, many of them concentrated on the East Side from 14th to 100th Streets.)
Local neighborhood activists who have been working on Northwell’s proposals for a new replacement hospital will be there to talk about the systems’ expansion plans which skip over parts of our city that are in great need in favor of luxury development in areas that already have more than enough.
