Why Health Reform is Important: Number of Uninsured New Yorkers Continues to Rise

Just as key provisions of the nation’s new health reform law are about to kick in, new Census Data are showing why the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is needed. The total number of uninsured New Yorkers rose to 2.8 million in 2009, a 4.3 percentage increase from 2008, according to new data released by the U.S. Census this week.  Nationwide, the number of uninsured people increased from 46.3 million in 2008 to 50.7 million in 2009.
